Corporate Responsibility Report 2009

In November 2008 we launched a new leadership competence framework together with 'The Learning Zone', an online portal that supports leaders and managers to drive their own personal development.

The Zone makes it easy to finds out what training is available and provides easy access to a huge variety of resources to build capability in our leadership competencies, from self learning guides and books to workshops and industry benchmarking reports. We involved managers from all areas of the business in developing the Zone and initial feedback tells us that managers find it extremely useful, for their own development and to support them in creating development plans with their team.

Overall, the Zone fits perfectly with our development principles:

  • We develop our people in order to deliver our business goals and to maximise the capability of everybody in our organisation
  • We encourage everyone to take control of their own learning and we support our managers to develop others
  • We believe real work is an opportunity to develop, while we also support people to take time out to learn
  • We place equal value on highly professional and highly technical skills
