Corporate Responsibility Report 2009

For the past 20 years a totem pole created by our foresters has been a unique focal point at Entwistle Reservoir.  A key attraction for young children and families visiting the reservoir, regularly used as a stopping off point on guided walks, and a meeting place for young explorers to meet up again with their family. However, 20 years of use had taken its toll and the pole was becoming unstable and dangerous so it will be removed in June 2009.

To replace it, a new centre piece of artwork close to the totem pole is now being enjoyed by everyone visiting this popular recreation area. Using recycled materials “The Heron” stands proudly at around 10 feet tall on the edge of the reservoir in a natural environment. Working in partnership with Blackburn and Darwen Borough Council and local artist Marjan Woulda, a sculpture trail has been created throughout the borough within local parks, creating various pieces of public art and “the Heron” was produced as part of that partnership.

It’s a natural successor to the totem pole and looks set to become as affectionate a part of the area’s heritage in years to come.
