We believe that supporting our employees’ efforts in the community benefits both the company and our people, and is a key element of our London Benchmarking Group community involvement calculation.
This year we improved two of our existing programmes. Our volunteering programme now offers employees six days in company time to volunteer for their local cause or group. Employees use the skills they learn to contribute to the business through their personal development plans.
And we introduced a scheme to support our budding Olympians in the run up to London 2012. The Olympic Sport Grant offers our people time to train and financial support if they represent their country.
Volunteering case study
When senior manager Dave Champness decided to give up his time for a worthy cause, he turned to his own family for inspiration. Dave, who has two adopted children, became a trustee board member of After Adoption – a leading adoption agency and provider of support services for adoptive families.
The Investment Planning Director for Asset Management and Capital Delivery now devotes several days a year to the charity, using his managerial expertise to help it thrive.
Dave’s recent achievements include helping After Adoption relocate to a new £1 million headquarters, speaking at a national conference, and supporting the marketing drive behind one of the charity’s flagship parent training courses. Dave believes he has benefited from these experiences just as much as the charity.
