How much could I save?

If you don’t already have a water meter, your current bills will be based on the rateable value of your home, not on the amount of water you use.

However, if you live on your own, have a small family or live in a house with a high rateable value, chances are you could be better off with a water meter.

Can I change my mind once the water meter has been fitted?

If you apply for a water meter, you have the option to go back to unmeasured charges as long as you request this within two years of the meter being fitted. Should you decide to switch back, the water meter won't be removed although your bills will then be calculated using the rateable value of your home rather than how much water you use.

Please note: if you have moved into a property which already has a water meter fitted, you do not have the option to switch back to unmeasured charges.

What about my bill?

Once you have a meter, you'll receive a bill every six months for the water you have used. Your first metered bill will arrive any time within the first six months of your meter being fitted, depending on when we take your meter reading. We'll finalise your 'old' rateable value bill and if we owe you any money, we'll reduce your first metered bill by this amount (if you owe money from your old bill, we'll ask you to pay the outstanding balance).

If you already pay your water bill by Direct Debit, you don't need to do anything, we will continue to take your payments in this way. If you don't currently pay by Direct Debit it's worth considering as we will reduce your annual bill by £5.

If you are a tenant and have a fixed term agreement, you can apply too. If your agreement is less than six months, please obtain your landlord’s permission first before applying.
